Animals in the service of men

Despite everything that makes them suffer, they are there, the famous dog and their companions, to save lives, that one day may be, have abandoned or beating an animal compagnie.il is clear that they are only there when you need them, skinflints the purse, because now, in times of crisis, or do you save money? Of the domestic animals that are doing away altogether, I called the cowardice and the human is a champion in this discipline.donc to bring a little reason, thinking of them on the ground day after day, to save and rescue lives, while at the bottom of them, they know that good number of you do not worth the trouble. -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ On 17 August 1999, at 3 hours, the nightmare began for a few million Turks living in north-east of Istanbul: 45 seconds during which the earth shake, but the days and nights to live ... Quickly specialized devices from around the world came into action to bring relief to victims. On 20 August, a group of five handlers French negotiating a ticket to Istanbul. It included Ifax with Eric Jordan (German shepherd), with HYKE Lebran Franck (German shepherd), with Patrick Wackernie Jim (German shepherd), with Gilles Channel Izvor (dobermann) and myself, Jacqueline Beaufort, with Lembron (dobermann). Every five operational duly patented the National School of Briançon, all fire professionals or voluntary (except Patrick). Eric, Gilles and myself, monitors our school founded by François Briançon Rostolland, all three "old backpackers" in the national and international. Bags on the back, dogs on leash, we want to go alone, without support organization other than the label of our National Association of Dog Search and Rescue, Orly brings us to where we envolâmes for Istanbul. Arrived there around 21 hours, our first concern was to find a competent interpreter and attentive to our wishes. Erürk Yildiz, who came from Switzerland, it was while listening to our needs and, from the beginning to the end of our stay, doing all the problems stewardship, leaving us and the free spirit for our mission. On board a commandeered bus, we arrived in Izmit, a city in affluent rescuers. Soon, we expliquâmes the local fire brigade our goal: find a city that received little or no means, we make available to local authorities and, if possible, to associate ourselves with déblayeurs. We were then told a city of 200,000 people, affected 75%: Adapazari, Sakarya yet named. The access road had just been restored. We reached this town about 3 hours and the headlights of the vehicle crossed the first houses collapsed or in part, relayed, as we progress in the city, buildings leaning to the right, left, front, behind as engaged in a danse macabre, where only the silence beat the measure. At first human contact, we asked for two of our dogs while the rest of the group joined the camp assigned to foreign aid, the park of a sugar. After a short rest restaurateur on fresh grass, at 7 o'clock we were ready to roam the city, responding to the demands of the crisis cell set up by the authorities had contacted our Erürk. It was still early and the temperature neared 35 degrees. After working unsuccessfully on several buildings, we stopped our dogs about 11 hours as the heat began to tire. We decided to put them to rest and resume our activities from 17 hours to overnight. Our investigations remained without result, despite the willingness of our dogs to ever walk the mountains of rubble. Only the smell of death rôdait wherever we go. The next day we began much earlier in order to enjoy the cool morning. A reserve officer, Pir Ali Kaya, was assigned to us to move more easily in a city whose population living in the streets, in makeshift shelters. A group of Polish rescuer asked our help to confirm some of their markings dogs but again, nothing. In late afternoon, we met people we had: Lifeguard-déblayeurs Moroccan remarkably effective and that our presence completed perfectly. We travaillâmes together until the end of our mission, in the greatest harmony, access them digging in the rubble unstable to introducing our dogs to track their truffe any parcel of life. We move from one site to another, depending on demand, always the same: "I heard someone there ...", but still below the wandering dead stones. Sometimes a glimmer of hope when several witnesses agreed, which led one night to discover, at the lack of response of our dogs, a musical postcard in response to calls! Or this great hotel in the heart of the city where all the rooms were a gigantic collapsed parallelepiped covering eternity for its dozens of hosts. Latest research, latest illusions: we are reminded, the night before our departure. One person has reportedly buried a mobile phone ... We travaillâmes tirelessly and around 3 hours, the investigation revealed that it was a hoax. We knew that our work now hangs there: too much time had passed, too much risk of collapse associated with heavy rains that had hidden the sun, too much risk of epidemics and so little chance of finding survivors. On the morning of 24 August, we resumed the road to Istanbul after having reported on our activities to the authorities and received with emotion the thanks of the people still gathered in the streets, waiting for to implement the camp property, located at the gap, and the host during the long months of rebuilding their city. Back in silence, each reliving in his mind and every search because they have saved lives, seeking healing in having raised many doubts about the presence of any survivors. Fast-relaxing visit to this magnificent city. Acknowledgments touching its inhabitants, met in the streets, bars, shops. A real meal in the best kebab, a small teams salvation Rapid cynos of Uisce Franck Lebran and HYKE, Gilles Channel and Izvor, Jacqueline and Lembron Beaufort, Eric Jordan and Ifax, Patrick and Jim Wackernie; Pir Ali Kaya, l 'reserve officer Brignolles gathered at the embassy and back to square one: the airport. Then a long night waiting for the plane that we bring with us in the early morning, sitting in a corner so that our dogs do not disturb many asleep in the passenger seats. Orly, August 25, noon: mission complete. In tribute to Eric Jordan, 40 years, our friend, who chose to leave last February after two other missions in Greece and Taiwan. Good man, we love you and will never forget you.
