On behalf of Wales

Immediately suspend new oil and gas activities on behalf of the whales! (WWF)

Gray Whales of the West is on the brink of extinction because continually threatened by oil and gas entanglement in fishing gear, collisions with ships and the occasional hunting by Japanese fishermen. These creatures have almost disappeared in the 1970s, but a small number - about 130 - are currently listed. But their main food in summer, the waters off the island of Sakhalin in the Russian Far East is a region being developed by the oil and gas industry. Last year, the number of whales identified was lower than normal. According to experts, this may be due to the sub-noise produced by oil and gas development in the region. This is a major concern because the population has only 25-35 breeding females remaining. WWF urges the companies involved in Sakhalin - Exxon, Shell, Gazprom, Rosneft and BP - to postpone any development until a committee of experts has evaluated the impact on western gray whales and makes recommendations on further development in the region. WWF also requires companies to avoid all future activities within the new Federal Reserve Marine Sakhalin. Please sign our petition to urge companies to act responsibly and ask them to ensure the survival of endangered species. http://passport. panda.org / campaigns / action_epetition. cfm? uCampaignId = 1921 = 2741 & uActionId Or http://kurl. nl? 57C9
